Agricultural Mechanics Shop Aide

Primary Purpose:

To assist teachers in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements, to work under the supervision of a classroom teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
  • High school graduate or hold a GED certificate
  • To comply with the "No Child Left Behind" requirements, at least 48 semester hours of college credit or pass a rigorous test

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Have experience related to working with students or parents
  • Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents
  • Keyboarding and computer proficiency
  • Experience with welding, small motors, and agriculture

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
  • Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
  • Provide orientation and assistance to the substitute teacher when the teacher is absent
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty where applicable
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned
  • Assist with copying and assembling papers in the office, as requested
  • Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned
  • Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business; demonstrates teamwork in daily activities
  • Is prompt and timely in completing daily tasks
  • Meets attendance standards and complies with campus notification procedures for absences
  • If applicable, input, verify, or update PEIMS information as assigned by the supervisor
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  • Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Adhere to the district's safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned
  • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
