JOB TITLE: AGRO Irrigation/Farm Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Extraction
LOCATION: Archer Farm
REPORTS TO: Director of Farm Operations
SUPERVISES OTHERS: No
STATUS: Full-time, Exempt
SCOPE:
Heartland Food Products Group is searching for a qualified Irrigation/Farm Assistant for the Splenda Stevia Farm in Archer, Florida. This is a full-time, year-round position with a growing specialty crop operation. The ideal candidate will have experience with irrigation systems, general farm work, and equipment operation. This person should understand the importance of water management, crop timing, and keeping irrigation systems running properly during critical growing periods.
The Irrigation / Farm Assistant will work closely with management on irrigation scheduling, pivot operation, system checks, troubleshooting, and general farm duties. This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on crop production, can work independently in the field, and wants to be part of a developing agricultural business with long-term growth potential.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Irrigation / Farm Assistant will assist with irrigation, crop production, field operations, and general farm support throughout the year.
Responsibilities include:
• Operate, monitor, and maintain center pivot irrigation systems
• Check pivots regularly to ensure proper operation and water application
• Assist with water management and irrigation timing based on crop needs and weather conditions
• Troubleshoot basic irrigation issues and report needed repairs
• Assist with pivot breakdowns, repairs, and service work as needed
• Monitor field conditions and communicate concerns to management
• Help with planting/transplanting, cultivation, crop maintenance, and harvest support
• Operate tractors, implements, and other farm equipment as needed
• Perform basic equipment service and daily maintenance checks
• Assist with general farm maintenance, cleanup, and other duties as assigned
• Work safely and efficiently during busy production and harvest windows
Desired Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
• Previous irrigation experience, preferably with center pivots
• Understanding of water management and crop irrigation needs
• Ability to check systems, identify problems, and communicate repair needs
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to assist with irrigation repairs
• Farm equipment operating experience preferred
• Ability to operate tractors and general farm machinery is a plus
• Willingness to assist with general field and harvest work when needed
• Ability to work independently and stay productive without constant supervision
• Good communication skills
• Dependable, organized, and safety-minded work habits
• Valid driver's license preferred
