Breeding Head of Department - Hog Farm

LOCATIONS IN Bladen, Pender and Duplin Counties North Carolina

Duties: Listed are essential duties and responsibilities. Supervisors may assign other duties.

  • Ensures health and welfare of all animals in their section nutritionally/environmentally and that all animals receive the standardized vaccination/medication program according to PQA and company standards. Adhering to all standard operating procedures must not compromise the overall health and welfare of the animals.
  • Ensures the day-to-day activities and processes are scheduled/performed according to standard procedures and policies in company technical manuals and relevant company documentation.
  • Trains and supervises all employees in their section to perform their responsibilities/tasks. Monitors subordinate performance and provides appropriate coaching documentation.
  • Plans and manages all day to day tasks within the section so all targets and responsibilities are complete. Identifies, eliminates and communicates any barriers to reaching targets or carrying out responsibilities to management.
  • Maintains all equipment and the correct environment in all section barns at all times. All inconsistencies are immediately rectified.
  • Manages, monitors and controls feed inventory at all times to satisfy animal requirements and to minimize waste.
  • Manages day-to-day inventory procedures for the section and practices standard inventory initiatives.
  • Manages and implements cost control practices/methods to conserve resources including electricity, water, gas, medication and feed.
  • Ensures that all employees in the section implement company safety and employment codes and guidelines at all times. Reports any violations immediately.
  • Develops and maintains open communication with all internal customers. Maintains regular communication with all customers and suppliers. Identifies problems and implements solutions.
  • Manages all personnel practices in the section (time cards, records, performance, etc.). Informs management of all personnel issues relating to the section.
  • Performs all other activities and responsibilities as defined by management according to standards.

Requirements:
  • Experience working on a hog farm with knowledge of the breeding department.
  • Strong organizational skills needed.
  • Breeding certification is preferred.
  • Farrowing certification preferred.
  • Basic maintenance knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to speak and communicate in both the English and Spanish language, preferred.

ADA Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, walk and stoop.
  • Ability to speak, hear, read and write
