JOB TITLE: Farm to School Co-op Student
DEPARTMENT: NUTRITION SERVICES
REPORTS TO: FARM TO SCHOOL COORDINATOR, (HIGH SCHOOL AG TEACHERS)

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must have no convictions of a felony or past criminal history and be in good health, as evidenced by completing a physical examination as prescribed by the Board. Must be of good character and moral behavior, must be a Barren County High School Ag student.
DUTIES: Assist with maintaining school gardens, tower gardens, raised beds, greenhouses across the district, and BCHS agricultural department projects. Support hands-on learning experiences for students. Help deliver supplies and keep Farm to School programs running smoothly.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Pay $11.25 with a contracted time of up to 15 hours a week for starting and ending fall semester.
The employee is an "at will" employee, and the superintendent may terminate this employment at any time.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position may involve lifting (up to 25 lbs), bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. Must be able to demonstrate and describe activities to youth. This position works with youth and adults with moderate noise exposure. This position will work both indoors and outdoors.

- Must be able to travel to and from various sites daily in a private vehicle. Mileage will be reimbursed.
- Sanitation and safety practices related to handling produce.
- Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Must be able to adjust to quickly changing circumstances and multiple demands appropriately.
- Health and safety regulations as directed in the HACCP plan.
- Must possess skills in problem-solving, time management, organization, processing paperwork efficiently, and collecting and interpreting data.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Water, weed, plant, and harvest crops at school gardens
- Help install and maintain landscape fabric, rows, and planting layouts
- Assist with seasonal planting (cool weather + summer crops)
- Support composting and basic soil prep
- Check water levels and nutrients in tower gardens
- Help seed, transplant, and monitor plant growth
- Assist with greenhouse watering and temperature checks
- Clean and reset towers between growing cycles
- Travel to different school sites
- Help set up garden areas for classes or activities
- Deliver supplies (plants, soil, tools, etc.) to schools
- Help load/unload materials for garden projects
- Keep tools, storage areas, and workspaces organized
- Take photos of gardens and student activities
- Assist with small tasks for events or Farm to School days
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help set up garden areas for classes or activities
- Deliver supplies (plants, soil, tools, etc.) to schools
- Help load/unload materials for garden projects
- Keep tools, storage areas, and workspaces organized
- Being dependable and showing up on time
- Communicating issues (plants dying, supplies needed, etc.)
- Representing the program positively
- Following safety procedures
- Assist with the inventory of supplies
- Take photos of gardens and student activities
- Help track what is planted, harvested, or needed
- Assist with small tasks for events or Farm to School days
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Performs assigned tasks on time.
- Consistently displays self-control with parents, students, and school personnel.
- Maintains a clean workstation (bus, desk, office, etc.) and does maintenance as needed.
- Be clean, neat, and appropriately dressed.
- Be consistently responsible and display an attitude of honesty and credibility.
- Show enthusiasm, interest, and concern for the program as a whole and for its efficient operation.
- Operate equipment safely at all times.
- Demonstrate positive behavior toward the purposes and goals of the Barren County Public Schools.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
