Culture Change Indicators (CCI) Dashboard for the US Farmed Animal Advocacy Movement

The project

We're helping US farmed animal advocacy leaders make better strategic decisions by giving them a shared, data-informed picture of how culture is shifting. Our dashboard tracks 25+ indicators across six domains, drawing on public polling, market and industry data, media tracking, and original survey research.

We have completed a UX research and design phase, working with movement leaders to test prototype directions. We now have a clear design direction and need a developer to build it. This is a deliverable-based contract engagement, ideal for a freelancer or small studio, with the possibility of a continued partnership for the right fit.

Design direction (from our completed UX phase)

We are moving from a Looker-based MVP to a public-facing site with a data dashboard and AI chat, including:
  • Top-level takeaways and a scannable overview of indicator trends
  • Sections organized around strategic questions ("Where is the movement winning?" "Where are the gaps?")
  • An interactive AI prompt field where users ask questions and get answers grounded in the data.
  • Open architecture: no buried menus or long scrolls

Full visual and content direction is in the UX brief you'll receive. We are open to discussing varied platforms but are interested in Webflow, with Observable Framework as a second option.

The data backing the site lives in Google Sheets where it is periodically updated by a research team. The site should be maintainable by a non-developer with AI assistance after handoff.
What we need
  • Build and launch a mobile-responsive public site on the chosen platform, implementing the design direction, with analytics from day one
  • Connect the data from Google Sheets with an update process a non-developer can run, last-updated dates shown per indicator, and automated updates for select sources
  • Implement AI chat v1, scoped strictly to CCI data with anti-hallucination safeguards and human review of AI-generated conclusions
  • Support export: CSV download, chart images, structured copy
  • Structure for the future and hand off: extensible for new metrics and visuals, clean semantic markup and machine-readable data for AI agents, documented so our team maintains it with AI assistance

Deliverables must support an October 2026 public launch, which includes time for development after your handoff.

Who you are

Requirements
  • 4+ years building and shipping production websites or web applications
  • Demonstrated experience with Webflow, Observable Framework, or similar platforms building modern data-driven web apps integrated with AI chat.
  • Experience integrating external data sources (Google Sheets, APIs, databases) into live sites
  • 2+ years managing your own client engagements (freelance, independent consulting, or equivalent)
  • Ability to lead the build independently: scoping, technical decisions, timeline management, and clear communication with a non-technical team

Ideal fit
  • Experience designing content-management workflows for non-technical maintainers
  • Experience working with nonprofit or mission-driven organizations, especially in farmed animal welfare, plant-based, or related movements
  • Comfort working from a UX brief and design direction

Compensation

This is a project-based engagement with a fixed fee per milestone. We've benchmarked this role at approximately $70-$110/hr for a US-based senior developer, depending on profile and experience. We welcome candidates from any location and will adjust compensation based on regional market rates while maintaining equity across the engagement. In your proposal, include your rate and estimated hours per milestone; scope and final budget will be defined together during the interview process.

About the Culture Change Indicators (CCI) Project

CCI tracks indicators of culture change related to farmed animals in the US, drawing on public polling, market data, media tracking, and original survey research. The goal is to give movement leaders a shared, evidence-based picture of how culture is shifting so they can make better strategic decisions and coordinate more effectively. The project began in early 2024 with 20+ movement leaders and has been refined through multiple rounds of stakeholder feedback, in partnership with Bryant Research and reviewed by Faunalytics.
