High Rocks-New Roots Community Farm
NRCF operates an 82-acre farm to strengthen the local food system in Central Appalachia. Our primary goals are to train and support regional producers, expand institutional and retail market access for locally grown products, and increase community access to nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables. Through farmer training, farm-to-school partnerships, and regional distribution, we improve economic opportunity for producers while increasing healthy food access for students, families, and rural communities.
Member Duties : Located at this working farm, this Service Member will increase NRCF's capacity to implement community food access programming through: - Coordination and hosting of school groups and 4-H Clubs for on-farm field trips - Assistance with development of on-campus gardens; - Assistance with program development relating to Farm to School - Collaborating with additional Fayette County Schools Americorps members and staff to implement nutrition/agriculture based curriculum to PK-8 students - Planning and facilitation of food access markets - Assistance with hosting of on-farm markets and events. -Recruits and coordinates volunteers -Community event planning and facilitation -Pop up Farmers Markets -Develop school gardens and executes school gardening program
