Position Summary

Location: Columbus, NE (on-site, with regular travel between farm sites)

Employment type: Full-time, exempt

Reports to: Director of Operations

Hiring a Live Production Supervisor to lead our farm teams and drive performance across our sites.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will build and manage a reliable farm workforce, control costs, and serve as a key point of contact with our customers. You will also work closely with our repair and maintenance team to keep equipment running with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

People leadership

  • Hire, onboard, and, when necessary, terminate employees in partnership with HR.
  • Manage, train, coach, and support agricultural workers to ensure consistent adherence to company policies, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity procedures.
  • Set clear daily and weekly priorities, conduct performance reviews, and address performance or conduct issues promptly and fairly.
  • Build a safe, accountable, and respectful work culture.

Flock performance and cost management

  • Monitor and improve key performance metrics.
  • Identify root causes of performance issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage costs, including labor, utilities, fuel, and supplies, and help develop and track budgets.
  • Maintain accurate production records and reports.

Scheduling and flock cycle management

  • Plan and coordinate chick placement, grow-out, catch, and downtime schedules across sites.
  • Oversee barn cleanout, litter management, and downtime maintenance so barns are ready for each placement.
  • Manage employee scheduling to cover daily care, weekends, holidays, and catch nights.

Customer liaison

  • Serve as a primary point of contact with the customer's live production team and field service personnel.
  • Communicate issues, and corrective actions clearly and promptly.
  • Ensure practices meet customer specifications, animal welfare audits, and food safety requirements.

Equipment and maintenance coordination

  • Assist with management and settings of barn equipment, including ventilation, heating, cooling, lighting, feed, and water systems and environmental controllers.
  • Work with the repair and maintenance team to prioritize and schedule repairs, timing work to minimize downtime and disruption.
  • Respond to alarms and equipment failures, including participating in an on-call rotation.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a confinement livestock operation (broilers, commercial layers, turkeys, swine, or dairy).
  • 2+ years of experience supervising a team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Working knowledge of animal husbandry, biosecurity, and animal welfare practices in a commercial setting.
  • Experience with barn environmental systems (ventilation, heating, cooling, lighting) and controller settings.
  • Ability to read and act on production data, records, and performance reports.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work professionally with employees, customers, and vendors.
  • Comfortable with technology, including email, spreadsheets, mobile apps, and software used for production records.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between farm sites.
  • Willingness to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needs require, and to participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Must pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple sites at once.
  • Animal welfare audit experience or certification (e.g., PAACO-certified auditor, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines familiarity).
  • Experience with poultry environmental controllers (e.g., Chore-Time, Rotem, Cumberland, Big Dutchman).
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for logging, prioritizing, and tracking work orders and preventive maintenance.
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, or plumbing troubleshooting skills, including generators and backup systems.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, both verbal and written, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with nutrient and litter management planning and Nebraska environmental (NDEE) requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in and outdoors in all weather, with exposure to dust, ammonia, noise, heat, and cold.
  • Must be able to walk barns for extended periods, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must follow strict biosecurity protocols, which may include shower-in/shower-out procedures and restrictions on contact.
