Description of Work
The Department of Animal Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) is seeking applications for an open rank professor in swine nutrition. This 12-month (calendar year), tenure-track appointment will contribute to a team effort focusing on applied animal nutrition, providing the swine nutrition focus. The position will be located in Lincoln, Nebraska, with an apportionment of 60% research and 40% teaching.
Nebraska is a leader in pork packing and production, has engaged commodity organizations (Nebraska Pork Producers, Nebraska Corn Growers, Nebraska Soybean Board), and has producers with an interest and desire to collaborate with the University of Nebraska. The successful candidate will work with these organizations and develop a successful nationally and internationally recognized research program, with publications in peer-reviewed journals. This position will be expected to obtain extramural grant funding and supervise graduate students and post-doctoral associates. Research opportunities include, but are not limited to, regulation of nutrient/energy metabolism; mechanisms of nutrient and energy partitioning for maintenance, growth, reproduction and/or lactation; or other research developed as part of collaboration with Nebraska swine producers.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate principles of animal nutrition (ASCI 320), as well as additional undergraduate and/or graduate-level nutrition courses aligned with the successful candidate's expertise and interests to fulfill the assigned teaching load. Teaching-related activities outside of the classroom will include advising undergraduate students, undergraduate recruitment, advising student organizations, enhancement of science literacy, and developing a strong mentoring program for graduate students and undergraduate student research projects.
Recognizing that collaboration and participation in teams enhances creativity, innovation, impact, and a sense of belonging, the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) and Animal Science are committed to creating learning, research, and Extension programming environments where the unique contributions of each individual are acknowledged and valued.
