REPORTS TO: Agronomy Sales Manager

DEPARTMENT: Agronomy

EEO Classification: Sales

Primary Purpose: Responsible for sales of agronomic input products and services to Ray-Carroll County Grain Growers, Inc. Customers.

General Description: Sales and services of crop inputs to area producers.

SALES RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and maintain a current list of customers and prospects, evaluating them based on potential operation size, creditworthiness, and other relevant marketing information.
  • Conduct sales calls throughout our assigned territories to discern customers’ agronomic needs and craft tailored solutions. Building long-term relationships to generate sales of our seed, fertilizer, crop protection products, and agronomy services.
  • Utilize our current marketing programs, products, and services to sell our agronomy products.
  • Leverage financing options available through various lenders and ensure timely submissions of applications to lenders and the Ray-Carroll Accounting department.
  • Maintaining accurate pricing and discounts on transactions with our customers.
  • Work closely with the accounting department at our location to ensure accurate billing splits, pricing, and billing terms.
  • Maintain and increase sales with existing customers while also attracting new business.
  • Establish and achieve sales goals that align with Ray-Carroll County Grain Growers’ objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, suppliers, and management to resolve product or service complaints in a fair manner to maintain strong relationships.
  • Make sound agronomic recommendations by offering tailored solutions to maximize returns for our customers.
  • Manage sales efforts to reach target margins and product mixes effectively.
  • Monitor and evaluate potential accounts receivable risks with current and prospective customers to minimize exposure.


  • KNOWLEDGE/ COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
  • Timely response to emails and messages to ensure effective communication.
  • Keep informed of agronomic products, trends, problems, and challenges will allow us to make informed recommendations.
  • Recommend and sell products and programs in alignment with our company's credit and pricing policies.
  • Relay any competitive sales, pricing, and marketing information to management promptly.
  • Clear communication regarding products being sold or prepaid, along with any issues that may arise.
  • Plan and execute test plots for improved crop varieties will serve as valuable sales tools.
  • Maintain open communication between customers and location personnel to set proper expectations and resolve issues.
  • Advise and educate producers on product use.
  • Collaborate with other departments to yield additional benefits for our customers.
  • Develop account plans with clear strategies to achieve goals.
  • Monitor projected sales to manage inventory needs effectively.
  • Be familiar with prepay procedures, transfers, purchase orders, and billing procedures.
  • Provide timely feedback on sales execution to help identify needs and opportunities.


  • OTHER DUTIES:
  • In the event of any mis-application resulting in damaged crops, the Sales Agronomist must:
  • Document and report the incident in detail, including the date, cause, and location.
  • Develop a plan outlining how the issue will be resolved.
  • Meet with the affected customer to have a signed agreement for resolution within 15 days of first notice of the error.
  • Work together as a cohesive sales team to build morale and group commitments to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Exhibit sound and accurate judgment in all decisions, projecting a positive attitude to both customers and employees at all times.
  • Provide courteous customer service is a priority in every interaction.
  • Remember to report even minor injuries to your supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Report all vacation and sick time to supervisor and HR personnel.
  • Be prepared to take on other duties as assigned by your supervisor as needed.
