Job Summary: Students will assist in all tasks related to production of greenhouse plant material. This includes both food crop and ornamental plant production, upkeep and management of hydroponic systems, and general maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lab Preparation for academic classes and labs.
  2. Harvesting of lettuce, tomatoes, basil, peppers, cucumbers, arugula, etc.
  3. Adhering to food safety guidelines and GAP Practices
  4. Assisting with IPM program implementation including scouting, beneficial organism release,
  5. and spraying of organic materials
  6. General growing: seeding, transplanting, spacing, pinching, etc.
  7. Grading, prepping, transportation of plants for sales, events, and on-campus display.
  8. Daily upkeep of Greenhouse facilities.
  9. Occasional outdoor work, and work with Horticulture Production crew.
  10. Other duties as assigned


Education Employment eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled Delaware Valley University student
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Students need to be adaptable to changes in Greenhouse tasks as the year progresses.
  2. Greenhouse or Horticultural experience is not required, but new skills must be learned and
  3. applied.
  4. Must work independently when needed.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  1. Occasionally lifting 25 lbs or less
  2. Frequently lifting 25 lbs or more
  3. Typically standing or walking
  4. Typically bending, crouching, stooping
  5. Climbing ladders, scaffolds
  6. Typically running, climbing
  7. Using tools requiring high dexterity
  8. Outdoor exposure to weather
  9. Exposure to chemicals
  10. Exposure to moving machinery
  11. Exposure to unpleasant odors
  12. Exposure to animal feces and specimens
  13. May be exposed to animal bites, scratches and contagious diseases
  14. High noise environment
  15. High dust, dirt, grease environment
  16. Must hold valid driver's license
  17. May have an alternative work schedule
  18. May be required to be on-call
  19. Indoor/Outdoor work. Students should be prepared to work in wet and dirty conditions and must dress appropriately
