Student Worker - Livestock

Job Summary: DVU Livestock Center is looking for a team of motivated individuals that have a genuine desire to learn through hands on work at the Livestock Center, housing the beef, swine and sheep herd. It is our desire to build a team of positive employees that are willing to learn and accomplish the many tasks that are required on a daily basis. Employees work an average of 15-20 hours per week, and one or 2 weekends per month. The schedule is reasonably flexible allowing students to take classes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Feed livestock housed at the farm twice per day
  2. Maintain a clean, healthy, and attractive facility.
  3. Assist with the herd health care tasks, including diagnosis and treatment of general health conditions across all three species housed at the Livestock Center.
  4. Assist with all aspects of livestock management, equipment operation and animal handling
  5. Operate various equipment and heavy machinery around the farm
  6. Assist with general maintenance of the facility
  7. Maintain landscape areas such as mowing, trimming, and flower bed care.
  8. Other duties as assigned


Education Employment eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled Delaware Valley University student
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Some farm and animal experience preferred but not necessary


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  1. Frequently lifting 50 lbs or more
  2. Typically standing or walking
  3. Typically bending, crouching, stooping
  4. Typically running, climbing
  5. Using tools requiring high dexterity
  6. Outdoor exposure to weather
  7. Exposure to chemicals
  8. Exposure to moving machinery
  9. Exposure to unpleasant odors
  10. Exposure to animal feces and specimens
  11. May be exposed to animal bites, scratches and contagious diseases
  12. High noise environment
  13. High dust, dirt, grease environment
  14. May have an alternative work schedule
