Job Duties:
- As a Maintenance Supervisor III, you will supervise and coordinate maintenance, repair, construction, and facility support activities to ensure TDCJ facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained.
- Supervise, schedule, assign, and inspect maintenance and construction work.
- Plan and prioritize preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
- Direct and monitor the work of maintenance employees and assigned inmate workers.
- Ensure work assignments are completed safely, efficiently, and according to TDCJ policies and procedures.
- Inspect buildings, equipment, work areas, and completed maintenance projects.
- Identify maintenance problems and determine appropriate repair or corrective actions.
- Coordinate maintenance projects and work assignments with other departments and supervisors.
- Estimate labor, materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and other resources required for projects.
- Request and coordinate materials, parts, supplies, and equipment needed to complete assigned work.
- Maintain accountability of stateissued tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained, secured, and accounted for.
- Perform or assist with handson maintenance and repair activities as needed.
- Supervise and train employees and inmate workers in proper work methods, safety practices, and equipment operation.
- Monitor inmate workers and ensure they remain in assigned work areas and follow established security and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, inventories, and other required documentation.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations and assist with resolving urgent facility needs.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, unit administration, and other TDCJ departments when necessary.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable TDCJ policies, safety requirements, building codes, and established standards.
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality, functionality, and compliance with specifications.
- Promote a safe, professional, and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Have strong leadership skills and can effectively supervise a diverse maintenance workforce.
- Have extensive experience in general maintenance, construction, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or related trades.
- Can quickly identify problems, determine the cause, and develop practical solutions.
- Are highly organized and can manage multiple maintenance projects and priorities at the same time.
- Can effectively plan preventive maintenance to reduce equipment failures and costly repairs.
- Have strong knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and safe work practices.
- Can accurately estimate labor, materials, equipment, and time needed to complete projects.
- Hold employees and inmate workers accountable while maintaining a professional and respectful work environment.
- Understand that safety, security, and accountability are equally important in a correctional facility.
- Can recognize potential safety or security concerns and take appropriate action before they become larger problems.
- Are comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility when unexpected maintenance or facility issues occur.
- Have strong documentation and organizational skills and understand the importance of accurate records.
- Can communicate expectations clearly and provide effective training and direction to employees and inmate workers.
- Take ownership of the maintenance operation and strive to keep facilities, equipment, and work areas in the best condition possible.
- Are a handson leader who is willing to step in, work alongside the team, and lead by example.
- Can balance production, safety, security, staffing, materials, and facility needs while maintaining a high standard of performance.
