UACE Tucson Village Farm Animal Educator
This position will have the AmeriCorps Volunteer serving with Tucson Village Farm's Animal Education Center, assisting with the daily caretaking of our herd and facilitating educational programming. This position is ideal for someone who wants to work outdoors with volunteers in an arid, dry environment helping engage youth and the community with animals through education and demonstrations. AmeriCorps Volunteers should enjoy active outdoor work and interacting with youth in a group setting. A successful AmeriCorps Volunteer will be enthusiastic, adaptable, dependable, and a strong team player. Serving at Tucson Village Farm and the 4-H Healthy Living Center, a member has the opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks. These tasks include feeding, watering, mucking out, shepherding, brushing, cleaning, animal handling, hoof trimming, halter training, lesson plan development, and youth development. A person working here needs to want to work hard, enjoy interacting with community volunteers of all ages, be flexible and have a willingness to be a team player. AmeriCorps Volunteers will receive training in animal handling, herd maintenance, teamwork, and program implementation.
Member Duties : Assist with animal education programs. Lead community in animal programming. Assist with large events. Will need experience with youth & working with the public; ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions & ability to lift over 50 pounds. There will be some night & weekend work.
