About us
Our story began in 1914, when the Wright family opened what would become Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. From the beginning, the farm was built on a simple promise: to bring fresh, local milk straight from cow to customer.
The land itself has even deeper roots, with the first deed recorded in 1896. In those early years, the Wright family milked about a dozen cows and raised chickens, pigs, and horses. Milk was bottled right on the farm and delivered daily to neighbors.
As food safety standards evolved in the early 1900s, small dairies faced an important decision: sell their cows, send milk to a central plant, or invest in pasteurizing equipment. Ernest Wright, the second generation of the family business, chose to invest in pasteurizing milk right on the farm. That decision helped ensure Wright’s could continue producing safe, high-quality milk while staying true to its roots. We have been pasteurizing our own milk on the farm ever since.
As our herd and community grew, so did we. In the 1970s, Wright’s opened its first retail store, transitioned away from home delivery, and expanded into baking cream pies, muffins, pastries, and other customer favorites. Over the years, our barns, bakery, and retail operations have continued to grow and improve, but our values have remained the same.
Today, five generations later, Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery remains family owned and operated. We are proud to produce, bake, and serve our products right here on the farm, continuing a tradition of quality, hard work, and care for our customers, our animals, and our team.
At Wright’s, doing things the Wright way has always been the right way.
