Job Title: AGRIBUSINESS EDUCATION TEACHER

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Teachers of Agribusiness Education must perform many duties involved in conducting a successful program of Agribusiness Education. Their primary responsibility is to conduct an instructional program that will enable students to make sound career choices such as entering some phase of production agriculture, obtaining job entry level skills for some off-farm agricultural related occupation, or to enroll in a post-secondary program for advanced study and training. In addition to a sound instructional program, a complete Agribusiness Education program will include working with adults in the community, and serving as advisor to the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter.
To discharge the many duties and responsibilities associated with an agribusiness program, the teacher must be concerned with and perform in the following activities during the school term and summer months:
INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM
Conduct an instructional program based on the State Board of Education approved course of study for Agribusiness Education. Agribusiness courses shall be available to students in grades 7 through 12 with priority for enrollment in descending order beginning with 12th grade, then 11th, 10th, 9th, etc.
FFA
Serve as advisor to the local FFA chapter. It is necessary that the teacher spend time in planning and conducting leadership, citizenship and cooperative activities, and to make the FFA an integral part of the instructional program.
SUPERVISED WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS
Develop and supervise work experience programs of all students who receive instruction. This will include:
AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS
Develop basic skills and abilities of students in the area of agricultural mechanics by:
FILING SYSTEM
Maintain an efficient filing system that will include:
TEACHING PLANS
Develop lesson plans, visual aids and other instructional materials that will make teaching and learning more effective.
ADULT AND CONTINUING EDUCATION
Plan and conduct a program of instruction with adults in the community. Most of this instruction will be given after school, evenings and during the summer.
RECORDS AND REPORTS
Prepare and promptly submit reports required by the local school, county and state office and keep an accurate file copy of all records and reports.
PUBLIC AND PROFESSIONAL RELATIONS
Assume a responsible role in public and professional relations by actively participating in civic, professional, agricultural, and other community organizations and keep the public informed as a part of the public relations program.
PRODUCTION AGRICULTURE
Improve the agricultural economy of the area by planning ways and means of informing producers of the latest scientific information available on production of crop and animals. Budget time to visit producers in the community for the purpose of determining present methods and encouragement of adoption of improved practices. This visitation might be scheduled for afternoons, non-school days, and in the summer.
PROFESSIONAL IMPROVEMENT
Continue professional growth by holding membership in professional organizations.
Participate in professional and in-service meetings and work toward an advanced degree by budgeting time to do professional reading and study. Attend summer workshops that are designed to provide needed professional skill s and competencies.
PROGRAM EVALUATION
Continue to evaluate program of agribusiness education. This can be accomplished through:
MAINTAIN FACILITIES
Maintain instructional facilities through the following activities:
FOLLOW-UP RECORDS
Keep a systematic record of former students• as one means of evaluating the program and assisting in the placement of students.
GUIDANCE
Assist students in making an occupational choice for which their special aptitudes, background and experience qualify them. This may be done through group and individual conferences.
SPECIAL NEEDS
Assist in identifying students who are handicapped and/or disadvantaged through home visitations and testing. By use of school shop and adjusted curriculums, the teacher is expected to develop a course of instruction to meet the needs of these students.
COOPERATIVE ACTIVITIES
Cooperate fully with local administrators and keep them informed on the local program. Also, work closely y with civic clubs, local and county agricultural organizations in promoting and participating in livestock shows and fairs.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES
Plan and carry out a strong summer program of work. The following activities should be included in a teacher's summer program:
LEAVING DEPARTMENT (RESIGNING, RETIRING, ETC.)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, and crouch and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

- Spending an average of fifty percent of instructional time in this area.
- Providing exploratory s hop skills in the Junior High grades and basic and specialized training with Senior High School students.
- Working toward improved and adequate facilities and equipment and maintaining existing equipment for maximum performance.
- Keeping shop clean, neat and orderly arranged at all times for most effective use.
- Be responsible for keeping and maintaining an up-to-date inventory of tools and equipment in the department.
FILING SYSTEM
Maintain an efficient filing system that will include:
- Instructional materials
- Records and reports
- Correspondence
TEACHING PLANS

- Supervise students placed for work experience on farms, or with business and industry.
- Revise and update curriculum and instructional material s.
- Develop or revise lesson plans for each instructional unit to include references, learning activities, teaching a ids, and resource people.
- Sharpen and/or repair s hop tools and equipment.
- Make shop available for community use on a regularly scheduled basis each week.
- Conduct FFA officers' leadership workshop and chapter meetings.
- Attend one in-service workshop sponsored by the State Department of Education, Vocational Division, and Agribusiness Service.
- Attend professional meetings called by State Department (FFA Convention, Summer Conference, etc.).
- Visit and work with adults enrolled in program.
- Assist program completers in locating a job or enrolling in post-secondary programs.
- Take annual leave the same as other twelve-month employees in local system.
- Assist students in selecting and securing livestock for projects and shows.
LEAVING DEPARTMENT (RESIGNING, RETIRING, ETC.)
Perform the following duties prior to leaving a school:
- Settle any financial obligations associated with the agribusiness department and/or school that he/she may have made.
- Make a complete inventory of the department.
- File a copy, and give a copy to the principal and superintendent.
- Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
