This Agricultural Regulatory Specialist I position is within the Office of State Veterinarian, Division ofAnimal Health, Disease Surveillance and Control Section 3.

This position offers a flexible schedule, use of a state vehicle, cell phone and computer equipment forbusiness purposes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Learns to perform routine inspections and testing of stockyards to ensure our regulations arebeing met with the State and Federal requirements administered by the Kentucky Department ofAgriculture. Works with the Veterinarian and Stockyard office staff to ensure the electronicmulti-purpose form is being properly filled out. Check supplies and order as needed.
  • Learns to perform routine inspections and testing with cervid and movements in accordance withKentucky Department of Agriculture regulations. Assist with Poultry testing for backyard flocksthat are enrolled in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP).
  • Learns to perform routine inspections and testing animals for communicable diseases at county,state, and national shows, and ensure that there is a current Certificate of VeterinaryInspection (CVI) accompany the animal.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:Experience in agriculture, inspection, quality control, regulatory, chemical application or application or inspection of pesticides or restricted chemicals, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Typical working conditions will require travel to such places as stockyards, farms, businesses, and amusement parks. Has close contact with livestock animals in such areas as stockyards, barns and/or barnyards.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
