Secondary Agricultural Science Teacher Job Description Position Title Secondary Agricultural Science Teacher (Grades 6-12 or 9-12) Primary Purpose Provide students with learning experiences in agricultural science and technology designed to develop agricultural knowledge, leadership abilities, career readiness, and technical skills. Facilitate classroom instruction, laboratory experiences, and supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs) while supporting student participation in the National FFA Organization and other agricultural education activities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Valid state teaching certification in Agricultural Science and Technology (or appropriate certification area) Knowledge of agricultural education curriculum, industry standards, and safety procedures Ability to manage laboratory and shop environments Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Leadership Develop and implement engaging lessons aligned with state standards and district curriculum. Teach courses in agricultural science, animal science, plant science, agribusiness, agricultural mechanics, natural resources, and related subjects. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs. Utilize technology, hands-on learning, and project-based instruction to enhance student achievement. Assess student progress and maintain accurate academic records. Laboratory and Shop Management Maintain a safe and effective learning environment in classrooms, laboratories, greenhouses, and agricultural mechanics facilities. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and district policies. Manage equipment, tools, supplies, and inventory. FFA and Leadership Development Serve as advisor to the local FFA chapter. Organize and supervise student participation in leadership development events, career development events, conventions, competitions, and community service activities. Promote leadership, citizenship, and personal growth through agricultural education programs. Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs) Assist students in planning, developing, and maintaining SAE projects. Conduct site visits and provide guidance for student projects. Maintain documentation and records related to SAE programs. Program Management Develop and promote a comprehensive agricultural education program. Establish positive relationships with parents, community members, agricultural businesses, and industry partners. Assist with program budgeting, purchasing, grant writing, and fundraising activities. Recruit students and promote agricultural education opportunities within the school and community. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development and required district meetings. Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and community stakeholders. Maintain current knowledge of agricultural practices, technologies, and educational trends. Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal or district administration. Working Conditions Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and movement of equipment and materials. Work may occur in classrooms, laboratories, greenhouses, barns, shops, and outdoor settings. Occasional evening, weekend, and overnight travel required for FFA events, competitions, livestock shows, and field trips. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and administrative regulations. Salary Salary based on district compensation plan, experience, and qualifications.
