Summary
Reports To: Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pay Grade: [A8] (split funded 50/50 Local Funds and Perkins Grant Funds) Terms of Employment: 223 Days
Primary Purpose
The SCUC Assistant Director of Agricultural Education serves as the primary leader for agricultural
education, supervising program growth, ensuring instructional excellence, managing facilities and
resources, and strengthening community and industry partnerships. This role acts as the central liaison
between teachers, campus and district administration, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with
district goals and workforce readiness initiatives. This position is responsible for developing, implementing,
and sustaining a high-quality, innovative agricultural education program across four campuses within
Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District.

Program Leadership & Strategic Development
• Develop and implement a comprehensive vision and strategic plan for agricultural education across
the district
• Ensure program alignment with district goals, CTE pathways, and workforce demands
• Lead expansion and continuous improvement of agricultural programs, including:
• Animal Science
• Plant Science / Greenhouse Operations
• Agricultural Mechanics
• Agribusiness and Leadership pathways
• Analyze program data to drive decision-making and improve student outcomes
Staff Leadership & Development
• Supervise, mentor, and support agriculture teachers and the Toby Connor Agriculture facility for all
secondary campuses
• Coordinate professional development aligned with instructional best practices and industry
standards
• Support recruitment, hiring, and retention of high-quality agriculture teachers
• Foster collaboration and consistency across all agricultural programs
• Work with an advisory committee and industry partners to provide key professional development to
enhance teacher needs
Instructional Oversight
• Ensure high-quality, TEKS-aligned instruction in all agricultural classrooms and labs
• Ensure curriculum alignment with TEKS and industry standards
• Create cohesive curriculum alignment between campuses and among teachers teaching the same
courses
• Support teachers in implementing rigorous, hands-on learning experiences
• Monitor and improve student performance in CTE coursework and certifications
FFA & Student Leadership Programs
• Provide district-level oversight and coordination of FFA chapters
• Provide training and coaching for teachers in how to best prepare students for competitions.
• Support planning and execution of:
• Career Development Events (CDEs)
• Leadership Development Events (LDEs)
• Public speaking contests
• Science Fairs
• FFA Star Degree and Proficiencies
• Conventions and leadership conferences
• Promote student leadership, participation, and achievement at the district, area, state, and national
levels
• Identify and promote agriculture leadership activities outside the traditional FFA program to include:
Texas Youth Institute, World Food Prize, USDA Ag Discovery, and other
Facilities, Resources & Operations
Oversee management and strategic development of agricultural facilities and equipment, including:
• Livestock barns and school farms
• Greenhouses
• Agricultural mechanics labs
• Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations of all facilities
• Coordinate maintenance, upgrades, and long-term planning for agricultural infrastructure
• Assist in managing inventories, equipment, and instructional resources
• Perform routine vehicle and trailer mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance in a timely and
efficient manner and without supervision. Maintain accurate, up-to-date preventative maintenance
records.
• Perform minor repairs in the facility and identify when a specialized trade is needed to solve
problems.
• Collaborate with agriculture teachers and CTE Department in the preparation for livestock shows and
additional educational events held at the facility.
• Perform general inspections of animals and stalls, and report any problems or concerns to
agriculture teachers.
• Transport students, livestock, and equipment to and from FFA events or other activities as needed
with Agriculture Science Teacher.
• Supervise custodial services for Program grounds and facilities.
• Assist supervising teachers to monitor student performance on Toby Conner Ag Complex-related
activities.
• Maintain fences and water lines throughout the complex.
• Collaborate with Security Systems Specialist, agriculture teachers, and CTE Department for
student/guest access to the agriculture facility including assisting with additions, deletions, reports,
and maintenance of gates and gate control systems.
• Responsible for scheduling and completing safety inspections for equipment and the agriculture
facility.
• Maintain security of grounds, facility, and livestock.
• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
• Be on call nights and weekends for emergency situations at the facility including communicating
with the District's CTE Director
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
Budgeting & Financial Oversight
Support the Director of Career and Technology Education in the development and management of
the agricultural education program budget
• Oversee expenditures related to:
• Facilities
• Equipment
• FFA activities and travel
• Assist the CTE Director with grant writing and securing external funding opportunities
• Ensure financial accountability and alignment with district policies
Community & Industry Partnerships
Serve as the primary liaison between the district and community stakeholders
• Develop partnerships with:
• Local agricultural businesses
• Industry leaders
• Postsecondary institutions
• Promote agricultural education programs within the community
• Create and manage a district Agriculture Advisory Council consisting of community members,
businesses, alumni, and current families
• Increase student access to internships, certifications, and career pathways
Program Promotion & Student Recruitment
Lead efforts to recruit and retain students in agricultural programs
• Promote program visibility through events such as:
• Livestock shows
• FFA banquets
• Community showcases
• Agriculture Tours and demonstrations
• Advocate for agricultural education at the district and community levels
Compliance & Accountability
Ensure all programs meet local, state, and federal guidelines for CTE
• Oversee program documentation, reporting, and audits
• Monitor compliance with safety, animal welfare, and facility regulations
Working Conditions
Frequent travel between campuses and program sites
• Extended hours, including evenings and weekends for FFA events, livestock shows, and program
activities
• Combination of office, classroom, and outdoor agricultural environments
• May be required to assist with student travel and competitions

- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education, Animal Science, or related field
- Master's degree in Agriculture or Administrative Leadership
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in Agricultural Science
- TTESS Evaluator Certified - Preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of Texas CTE standards, Agricultural TEKS, and FFA structure
• Strong leadership, organizational, and program management skills
• Ability to supervise, coach, and develop staff
• Knowledge of agricultural facilities management (barns, greenhouses, ag mechanics labs)
• Experience in budgeting, scheduling, and program evaluation
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Experience:
- Minimum 7-10 years of successful agricultural education teaching experience
