OVERVIEW
The Children's Farm Assistant Manager possesses a passion for working with various farm animals and supports the daily functions of our farm such as feeding, cleaning and administering medication. They will connect the public to farm life, where their food comes from and sustainable farming. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can build relationships with volunteers, engages with the public and has a strong understanding of animal husbandry.

KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Engage with visitors to the farm, providing educational tours, demonstrations, hosting birthday parties, and answering questions about farming practices and animal care.
  • Assist in the daily care and maintenance of farm animals, including but not limited to feeding, grooming, monitoring their health, administering medications and record keeping.
  • Perform routine farm maintenance such as cleaning animal enclosures, mending fences, and maintaining farm equipment.
  • Serve as the Children's Farm summer camp lead for both summer and school year programs.
  • Assist with and help lead field trips, ensuring educational content is age-appropriate, interactive, and aligned with farm programming.
  • Introduce and help develop new programming in collaboration with the Children's Farm Manager, such as 4-H programs, afterschool initiatives, and expanded educational offerings.
  • Collaborate with Farm Manager on enrichment and animal training.
  • Support volunteers on the farm through training and positive interactions.
  • Assist in the organization and execution of special events and educational programs such as summer camp hosted at the farm.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure the smooth operation of daily tasks and projects.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure environment for both animals and visitors.
  • Other tasks as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Previous experience working on a farm or with farm animals is required.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of farm animals, including but not limited to, alpacas, horses, cattle, goats, pigs, and poultry.
  • Knowledge of farm equipment such as tractor or skid steer; will train
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with visitors of all ages.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with a proactive and adaptable attitude towards tasks.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate farm schedules and special events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • High school education or equivalent preferred; supplemented by two to three years of farm experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Prior knowledge of farm animals required
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training; will train
  • Valid driver's license with safe driving record

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed essentially outdoors. While performing the duties of the job, employee is frequently

exposed to loud noises and odors. Stands and walks for extended periods of time. Frequently performs moderate lifting, bending and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs. While performing the semi-manual duties of this job, the employee works in hot, humid weather conditions. The employee is exposed to assorted soaps, sprays, manure, disinfectants, medicines, and odors associated with animal barns.
