Job Description: Career and Technical Education (CTE) Agriculture Teacher
Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the field of agricultural science that develop competencies in agricultural education, leadership, and career readiness. The teacher will foster a positive learning environment, support student participation in supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs), and promote leadership through FFA.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in Agricultural Science and Technology (Grades 6-12)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CTE programs and pathways preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of agricultural science curriculum including plant science, animal science, agribusiness, and mechanics
  • Ability to manage laboratory, shop, and/or land-based learning environments safely
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to supervise student projects, including livestock and agricultural enterprises
  • Knowledge of National FFA Organization programs and competitions
Experience
  • Student teaching or approved internship
  • Experience in agricultural education or related field preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR)
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs
  • Integrate academic and technical skills to prepare students for postsecondary success
Program Management
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive agricultural education program, including classroom instruction, SAE, and FFA components
  • Maintain agricultural facilities such as shop areas, barns, greenhouses, and land labs
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards and district policies
Student Growth and Development
  • Guide students in developing and maintaining Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects
  • Prepare students for leadership development events (LDEs) and career development events (CDEs)
  • Encourage student participation in agricultural competitions, exhibitions, and community events
FFA Sponsorship
  • Serve as an advisor for the local FFA chapter affiliated with the National FFA Organization
  • Organize and supervise student participation in FFA meetings, activities, and conferences
  • Coordinate travel and ensure student eligibility for events
Assessment and Data
  • Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and program outcomes
  • Utilize data to improve instruction and student performance
Community and Program Engagement
  • Build partnerships with local agricultural businesses, community members, and industry leaders
  • Promote the agricultural program through events, social media, and outreach
  • Support district initiatives and maintain strong relationships with parents and stakeholders
Professional Growth
  • Participate in professional development aligned with CTE and agricultural education
  • Stay current with industry trends and instructional practices
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise students in classroom, laboratory, shop, and field environments
  • Oversee student participation in off-campus activities, including livestock shows and competitions
Working Conditions
  • Frequent outdoor work and exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment or materials related to agricultural instruction
  • Occasional travel for student competitions and professional development
Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS).
Employment Details
  • Position Type: Exempt, 10-12 month contract (based on district needs)
  • Reports To: Campus Principal / Superintendent
  • Salary: Based on district salary schedule and experience
