
Dairy Management Trainee
Position Summary
The Dairy Management Trainee is a structured position designed to cultivate skilled dairy professionals who are ready to manage and operate a dairy farm efficiently and independently. Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and progressive responsibility, trainees develop a comprehensive understanding of herd health, nutrition, reproduction, labor management, and daily farm operations. It is the goal that our trainees move into Jr. Dairy Manager roles after one to two years of employment.
We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and genuinely passionate about dairy agriculture. Prior experience with dairy cattle is preferred but not required — what matters most is work ethic, a desire to learn, and a long-term commitment to the industry.
Responsibilities
- Rotate through all major dairy departments, gaining hands-on experience in each functional area of farm operations
- Learn and apply best practices in herd health, nutrition, reproduction, milking operations, and record-keeping
- Work alongside experienced dairy managers and executives to understand operational decision-making
- Participate in leadership development activities and mentorship sessions with our executive team members
- Assist in identifying and implementing efficiencies to improve farm productivity and profitability
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting on key performance indicators
- Demonstrate progressive growth in dairy management competencies throughout the program
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (4-year) from an accredited university in Agricultural Sciences, Animal Science, Dairy Science, or a closely related field is preferred
- Hands-on dairy background — prior experience working on a dairy farm (through employment, internship, FFA/4-H, or family operation)
- Strong understanding of basic dairy production principles and herd management
- Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as farm operations require
- Physical ability to perform farm labor tasks in varying outdoor conditions
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Experience with dairy herd management software or precision dairy technology
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills
- Prior leadership experience in agricultural, academic, or professional settings
