Job Description
Under close/limited supervision, provide educational programs, training, information and technical assistance/advice and outreach services to the community in agriculture, with a focus on horticulture. Plan, organize and conduct training classes, workshops, short courses and special events to stimulate and promote an interest in agriculture/horticulture. Develop instructional materials, visual aids, and exhibits to support outreach efforts and enhance public understanding of horticultural practices. Plan and design training activities and displays to illustrate ideas, demonstrate new methods and appropriate technologies with a focus in horticulture Answer general telephone and email inquiries from the public. Visit homes, farms, gardens and other targeted clientele. Provide leadership and technical advice to groups in developing programs and activities. Collect and enter data into computer databases. Analyze data to provide technical information and develop reports. Organize and maintain community and school-based programs in horticulture. Provide technical advice and assistance in agriculture and natural resources area. Foster agriculture/horticulture mission through presentations and demonstrations to the community, schools and other groups. Conduct field visits of agriculture/horticulture programs and projects. Additionally, employee will assist in coordinating activities related to the Agriculture and Natural Resources Program.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in agriculture/horticulture.
Valid U.S. Virgin Islands driver's license required
Skills & Abilities
Ability to understand a system of policies and procedures.
Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems.
Ability to calculate mathematical operations.
Ability to read and write routine reports, grant applications, and give public presentations and correspondence.
Ability to plan and organize work efficiently.
Ability to work well with youth and adults and provide courteous service.
Skills in operation of an automobile, photocopier, computer, audio, video and photography equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Physical Demands
High stress environment.
High pressure to meet deadlines.
Must be self-motivated.
Must have the ability to be composed at all time.
Must have the ability to sit for an extended period of time.
Must be able to use a computer and common business software.
Work requires occasional overnight travel.
Work environment: The noise level in the work environment will be moderate.
