Farm Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations and strategy of LongView Farms. As part of this role, the Farm Manager (FM) will plan, coordinate, and lead a team of operators in executing daily farming activities, oversee an annual operating budget and financial performance, manage the inventory of row crop inputs (seed, chemical, fertilizer), serve as a member of the Risk Management Committee, and collaboratively execute the long-term vision of LVF alongside members of the LongView Group (LVG). The FM will report directly to the LVG CEO. In addition, the following activities will be expected of the Farm Manger:

• Manage input inventories and grain storage levels.
• Manage Shop Foreman to schedule equipment maintenance and shop projects to ensure that LongView’s equipment is in good working order and ready for efficient crop production activities.
• Support and direct Property Manager to ensure facilities and grounds are presented in a professional manner and provide a positive working environment for team members, customers, and visitors.
• Collect and analyze production data for improvement in agronomic output and operational efficiencies. Work in tandem with the CFO to optimize and execute an annual operating budget.
• Develop and maintain key relationships with farm suppliers and vendors, including seed, chemical, fertilizer, co-op, and equipment personnel.
• Work in tandem with the Business Development Manager to facilitate strategic and meaningful landowner relationships

This position requires a problem solver who takes a hands-on role in assuring farming activities are being done in an efficient and optimal manner to maximize production and stewardship. The role will require an experienced leader with good communication skills, able to direct a team of operators while conducting themselves with character and integrity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead, communicate and develop the operational logistics of the production team
• Schedule and assign daily production tasks and responsibilities
• Coordinate and plan for all crop production enterprises
• Manage input selection, inventory, and usage
• Participate in the successful completion of production activities
• Implement data collection and resource tracking software (ex. Harvest Profit)
• Organize and analyze production records and data
• Oversee all equipment and operators’ field performance
• Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and conduct training activities
• Maintain safety protocols and train employees in safety procedures
• Develop and execute an annual operating budget with the CFO
• Collaboratively develop and maintain a progressive and results-oriented vision for the farm’s future
• Ensure equipment are serviced, maintained, and operationally ready
• Coordinate grain deliveries
• Operate equipment
• Create a positive team atmosphere and culture
• Perform other duties as may be assigned

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

• Knowledge and understanding of crop production systems related to corn and soybeans
• Knowledge and understanding of farm equipment and precision technology
• Good leadership skills to coordinate operators in a safe, efficient manner
• Good communication and listening skills to identify problems and address them thoroughly
• Strong grasp of personnel scheduling and time management
• Good analytical ability to provide clear reports to management and partners

QUALIFICATIONS

• 10 years or more of experience in corn and soybean production
• Experience managing a team of operators
• Must be willing to obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicators license and Class A CDL license
• Basic computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office, MyJohnDeere, and others
• Willing and able to work extended hours based on seasonal demands of crop production

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

• Valid drivers license with safe driving record
• Capable of lifting materials up to 50 lbs.
• Able to perform routine maintenance tasks and other activities related to crop production
