The Greenhouse Technical Sales Manager is responsible for driving growth of greenhouse structures, environmental systems, and capital equipment sales across BFG Supply Company's professional grower, controlled environment agriculture (CEA), hydroponic, cannabis, and lawn & garden retail channels.
This role serves as the company's subject matter expert for greenhouse structures, environmental controls, growing systems, and related capital equipment while also maintaining direct responsibility for strategic project sales nationwide.
The position combines business development, technical consulting, sales support, market development, and training responsibilities to accelerate growth across multiple business units. The Greenhouse Technical Sales Manager will work closely with sales teams, supplier partners, engineers, project managers, and customers to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and successfully execute greenhouse and equipment projects.
Compensation: Base salary (exempt) plus commission based on experience

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Project Sales (40%)
- Develop and manage relationships with strategic growers, investors, developers, retailers, and commercial cultivation operations.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue greenhouse structure and equipment opportunities nationwide.
- Lead project development efforts from initial concept through proposal and project award.
- Prepare and present greenhouse and equipment solutions tailored to customer operational and financial objectives.
- Collaborate with engineering, estimating, and project management teams to develop competitive project proposals.
- Achieve annual sales and gross profit objectives for greenhouse structures and capital equipment.
- Maintain an active pipeline of commercial greenhouse and controlled environment projects.
Technical Sales Support & Project Development (30%)
- Serve as BFG's primary technical resource for greenhouse structures and growing systems.
- Support sales representatives in identifying and developing greenhouse and equipment opportunities within their customer base.
- Participate in customer meetings alongside sales representatives to provide technical expertise.
- Assist customers in evaluating greenhouse structures, environmental controls, irrigation systems, benches, automation, lighting, and other production technologies.
- Provide technical guidance on facility design, equipment selection, and operational considerations.
- Work closely with DeCloet and supplier partners to develop project solutions.
- Support project scoping, budgeting, and feasibility discussions.
Market Development & Growth Strategy (20%)
- Develop and execute a national strategy to expand greenhouse and equipment sales across:
- Commercial greenhouse growers
- Independent garden centers
- Hydroponic retailers
- Cannabis cultivators
- Indoor and vertical farming operations
- Identify emerging market opportunities and industry trends.
- Develop programs that increase awareness and adoption of greenhouse structures and production systems throughout the customer base.
- Partner with category management and business leaders to create growth initiatives and supplier programs.
- Evaluate new technologies, suppliers, and product offerings to strengthen BFG's market position.
Training & Organizational Development (10%)
- Develop training programs that improve sales team competency in greenhouse structures and systems.
- Create sales tools, project qualification guides, ROI calculators, and technical resources.
- Conduct training sessions during sales meetings, regional meetings, and customer events.
- Mentor sales representatives on project selling techniques and capital equipment opportunities.
- Serve as an internal resource for questions related to greenhouse structures, environmental systems, and facility expansion projects.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture, Greenhouse Management, Business, Construction Management, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- 7+ years of experience in greenhouse structures, greenhouse operations, controlled environment agriculture, or capital equipment sales.
- Demonstrated experience selling complex greenhouse projects and capital equipment solutions.
- Strong understanding of greenhouse design, environmental control systems, irrigation systems, growing systems, automation, and production technologies.
- Ability to develop relationships with commercial growers and strategic customers.
- Strong presentation, communication, and project development skills.
- Ability to travel nationally.
Preferred
- Experience with commercial greenhouse construction and project management.
- Knowledge of environmental controls, automation systems, irrigation design, and energy management systems.
- Experience in cannabis cultivation facilities, hydroponics, indoor agriculture, or vertical farming.
- Experience working with greenhouse manufacturers, engineering firms, or greenhouse equipment suppliers.
- Familiarity with financial modeling and ROI analysis for capital investment projects.
