ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned
  • Performs general duties relating to the upkeep of the buildings, grounds, and water features
  • Weeds, waters, and installs bedding plants
  • Performs generalized janitorial duties
  • Assists with mulching of flower and landscape beds
  • Operates various non-powered hand tools safely
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general and departmental - specific safety rules
  • Attends all required safety trainings
  • Maintains cleanliness in all work areas
  • Utilize the Rockford Park District's HRIS system for all HR and payroll-related requirements and to accurately clock in and out for all shifts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education/Experience
Currently enrolled in High school or working towards GED

Critical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Minimum of 16 yrs old
  • Days and hours vary; general hours will be 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required
  • Excellent customer service skills and customer oriented
  • Good communication skills including expressive, written, and receptive
  • Ability to follow direction from Nicholas Conservatory Horticulture Supervisors, Coordinators and Seasonal Supervisors, demonstrating flexibility as a team player.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (can be obtained through the Rockford Park District within one year of hire)

Heavy work:
    • Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally
    • Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently
    • Exerting in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to perform moderately physically intensive tasks, potentially including any combination of the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
