About the Role

As a Horticulture Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the quality and presentation of some of Council's most significant open space assets, including Wilson Botanic Park, Casey Fields, Premier Activity Centres, community facilities, and other parks and reserves. The role supports the delivery of high-quality horticultural outcomes across the municipality through hands-on maintenance, asset management, and operational planning.

Working closely with the Team Leader, Coordinator, and Horticulture/Parks Officers, you will assist with daily operations, contribute to service planning, and support the development and management of Council's horticultural assets and data systems to ensure a high standard of landscape presentation and sustainability.

What You'll deliver

  • Provide day-to-day (on-site) supervision, technical guidance, and direction to qualified and non-qualified staff and apprentices as required.
  • Undertake the maintenance, planning and development of garden areas
  • Facilitate the curation of the plant collection.
  • Utilise mobile technology to undertake audits of assets and contractor performance as Position Description required.
  • Provide horticultural advice and information in accordance with industry best practice to the team and other Council staff.
  • Operate and maintain a range of mechanical equipment and plant associated with general horticultural operations.
  • Participate in relevant working groups to further progress planning and enhancement and/or development of Council's prominent sites.

What You'll Bring

  • A Certificate III (AQF Level 3) or higher qualification in Parks and Gardens, Horticulture, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proven experience in horticultural maintenance, ideally within high-profile public open spaces, including the safe operation of a range of plant and equipment.
  • Intermediate computer skills, with the ability to use Microsoft Office applications and other digital systems for data entry and record management.
  • Sound understanding and practical application of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and risk management principles.
  • A current Australian Driver Licence with Light Truck endorsement.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check & Functional Assessment (Medical/physio)
