Pullet Barn Manager

Founded in 1929, Giroux's Poultry Farm is a fourth-generation, family-owned business based in Chazy, New York. What began as a small family farm has grown into one of the region's premier egg producers, with the Giroux family continuing to lead the company's growth while staying true to the values it was built on. Through a fully vertically integrated operation, we manage nearly every step of the process in-house, from growing and milling much of our own feed, to egg production, processing, packaging, and transportation. The company’s commitment to responsible farming extends beyond poultry production through sustainable practices, including recycling poultry manure into fertilizer and operating additional agricultural ventures such as Chazy Orchards.

As the Pullet Barn Manager, you will play a key leadership role in raising the next generation of laying hens while overseeing daily pullet barn operations. This position is responsible for leading and developing employees, coordinating flock schedules and vaccination programs, monitoring bird health and welfare, and ensuring the operation continues to meet the high standards that have defined Giroux's for generations. Key Responsibities:
  • Manage the care and production of over one million pullets across multiple farm locations (all within 5 minutes of each other) and housing systems.
  • Develop and maintain schedules for chick placements, vaccinations, pullet transfers, and layer house placements.
  • Supervise, train, and support barn employees to ensure daily tasks are completed
  • Oversee daily barn operations, including feed and water availability, manure belt operation, and overall flock welfare.
  • Ensure cage-free pullets are properly trained and prepared for successful transition into laying facilities.
  • Coordinate and oversee flock vaccination programs, including administration of live spray vaccinations and monitoring proper vaccine handling procedures when the vaccine crew is present.
  • Assist in the supervision and training of vaccination crews to ensure compliance with biosecurity and vaccination protocols.
  • Order vaccines and maintain vaccine inventories
  • Monitor flock health and performance, promptly identifying and addressing any issues affecting bird welfare or production, notifying and working with company veterinarian.
  • Ensure compliance with all company biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety standards.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in livestock
  • Experience managing personnel
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple facilities, schedules, and priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and recordkeeping skills
  • Ability to work in a farm environment and respond to operational needs as required
