San Diego Humane Society is gathering interest for potential Part-Time Temporary Horse Husbandry Ranch Hands ready to start immediately with our Julian team!
How you'll impact our mission:
At San Diego Humane Society, we're united by our mission to Inspire Compassion, providing hope and advancing the welfare of animals and people. We're seeking individuals who are available to assist immediately with our mass rescue operation in Julian.
In this role, you'll work primarily outdoors on a large, multi-acre ranch to assist onsite staff by completing tasks such as mucking stalls, feeding/distributing hay, distributing/filling water, fixing fences and operating equipment. This will be a physically demanding role that will require standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and working on your feet for extended periods of time.

What we're looking for:
Location & Hours: Based at our temporary work site in Julian. This is a short-term, as-needed assignment expected to last approximately 1-2 months, depending on operational needs. Immediate availability is strongly preferred.
Part-Time positions may work either from 8am - 12pm or 1pm - 4pm, Monday-Friday.
Pay: The hourly rate for this position is $20.00 per hour.

What you'll do:
- Clean and sanitize barns, stables, stalls, and pens on a regular schedule
- Perform water supply and pasture maintenance as needed
- Haul feed, hay, and supplies using trucks and trailers, including lifting 100+ lbs
- Perform other general maintenance tasks to support the upkeep of a working ranch
- Maintain and repair hand tools, ranch structures, and water troughs
- Feed, water, and monitor the health and behavior of horses, and herd, sort, and move animals between pastures or into enclosures as needed
What we're looking for:
- Must have a HS Diploma or equivalent
- Must have a valid driver's license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes
- Previous experience working with horses on a ranch and working knowledge of horse behavior, health monitoring, or basic veterinary aid is highly desirable
- Experience operating pick-up trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery safely is preferred
