A rare opportunity to step into a key livestock leadership role at a rapidly expanding cattle enterprise, with a new feedlot coming online and genuine scope to make your mark in southwestern Queensland.

Located between Surat and Glenmorgan in Southwest Queensland, this family-owned cattle and cropping enterprise is undergoing significant expansion with a new feedlot nearing completion. Spanning 35,000 acres the company incorporates an Angus breeding operation, feedlot and irrigated cultivation country included in approximately 8,000 acres of rotational cropping.

With a team of four staff already in place, the business is seeking an experienced Livestock Overseer to strengthen feedlot leadership and support day-to-day livestock operations. This role reports directly to the owners and would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of daily activities while working collaboratively within a family-managed business. An immediate start is available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Manage daily feedlot operations including livestock movements, induction, dispatch and feeding activities.
  • Monitor livestock health, welfare, backgrounding and paddock management programs.
  • Monitor commodity inventory and feeding requirements.
  • Supervise and support staff while maintaining accurate livestock records and contributing to ongoing operational improvements.
Selection Criteria:
  • Ideally, minimum 3 years' feedlot experience and 5 years' experience within the livestock industry. (Experienced Head Stockman or Leading Hand meeting requirements are encouraged to apply).
  • Proven capability managing livestock movements, feeding programs and stock handling operations.
  • Experience using feedlot management software, with the ability to learn and utilise Livestock Junction.
  • Strong organisational, communication and decision-making skills, with the confidence to work independently and take ownership of daily operations.
Additional Particulars:
  • Comfortable 3-bedroom air-conditioned cottage provided, including utilities.
  • Partner employment opportunities available, including part-time administration and/or station hand duties (15-20 hours per week, with potential for additional hours).
  • Supportive local community with access to a primary school nearby.
  • Remuneration package negotiated according to experience and will include salary, accommodation, work vehicle and associated benefits.
