Student Grounds/Horticulture Assistant I
Location: 3921 College Road, Holt, MI 48842
Pay: $14.73 per hour
*Due to the minimum wage increase at MSU, the starting rate for this position is going to be $16.00 effective 8/9/26. Those hired prior to 8/9/26 will also be brought to the new minimum on this effective date.
Under the supervision of the SOF Manager and student crew leaders, student farmers will perform the tasks necessary to run a diversified vegetable production. These responsibilities include but are not limited to greenhouse seeding, cultivating, harvesting, transplanting, direct seeding, irrigating, and pruning. Students will also have the opportunity to run our weekly CSA Distributions, where we serve 100 members as part of our 15-week Summer CSA and 100 members as part of our 5-week Fall CSA. Student Farmers will also occasionally assist and interact with other educational programs and tours on-site.

Required Qualifications
Commitment to delivering outstanding Spartan experiences
Demonstrated interest in sustainable agriculture
Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences
Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to listen to directions and execute them.
Positive attitude and effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous farming or gardening experience is not required.
Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator license is helpful but not mandatory.

- Please note that you must provide your own transportation to the Student Organic Farm as it is located 4 miles south of main campus. The buses do not have routes to the farm.
