Farm Veterinary Surgeon

PublishedPublished: Published 1 week ago
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Farm Vet to join us in Kelso, in the Scottish Borders.

Galedin is an RCVS accredited, rural, mixed practice with an established beef and sheep client base, alongside small animal and equine services.

We have all the essentials including phase contrast microscopy, Pulsator-V and both linear and curvilinear ultrasound scanners. The practice has a number of certificate holders and colleagues enrolled in certificate programmes and excellent support is available from experienced colleagues.

The Role:

This position will mainly involve working with our progressive suckler farms where we offer routine services from pelvimetry, AI and bull testing through to pregnancy scanning and blood sampling in addition to any emergency work.

There is the opportunity to work with our pedigree sheep flocks, as well as our enthusiastic and progressive commercial sheep farms with our dedicated Flock Health Club. An interest in herd and flock health planning is essential. The role includes an equally shared, farm-only out-of-hours rota.
  • Full-time (one weekday off every other week), part-time considered for the right candidate
  • Equal share of the OOH rota, currently 1 in 6
  • Salary up to £55k (pro rata) dependent on experience

Our Ideal Candidate:

We're keen to welcome a vet who has gained solid initial experience in a farm or mixed practice role and is able to work confidently and independently whilst participating in the farm-only out-of-hours rota without immediate backup.

You'll enjoy working as part of an experienced and enthusiastic team providing excellent clinical care and be keen to develop your skills.
