Position Summary:

The Pastry Cook is responsible for creating pastries, desserts, and baked goods that enhance the guest's dining experience. Responsibilities of the Pastry Cook include but are not limited to the preparation and baking of menu items such as breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, plated desserts, ice creams etc. for the various restaurants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Accurately read and scale recipes in any unit of measure.
  • Handle, store, and rotate all products properly.
  • Stock and maintain par levels of food products.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation.
  • Follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes.
  • Complete required tasks within assigned time frames.
  • Demonstrates good knife skills.
  • Compute basic mathematical calculations, including recipe conversions.
  • Prepare a wide range of pastry items, including cakes, pastries, cookies, tarts, and other dessert offerings.
  • Follow established recipes and techniques to ensure consistent taste and quality.
  • Operate ovens and other baking equipment to bake pastries to perfection.
  • Monitor baking times and temperatures to achieve desired textures and flavors.
  • Decorate and garnish pastries with finesse, creativity, and attention to detail.
  • Ensure that the presentation of pastries meets the resort's visual standards.
  • Monitor ingredient levels and communicate with the culinary team to ensure adequate stock of supplies.
  • Assist in inventory control and order requisitions to prevent shortages.
  • Adhere to food safety guidelines and sanitation standards while preparing, handling, and storing pastries.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of ingredients and tools.
  • Collaborate with other culinary team members, including chefs and kitchen staff, to coordinate pastry offerings with the overall menu.
  • Regularly taste and evaluate pastry products to ensure they meet the resort's quality and taste standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Work consistently with good time management skills.

  • Knowledge of various pastry techniques, baking methods, and decorating skills.
  • Creativity and artistic flair in pastry presentation and decoration.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality pastries.
  • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work within a team.

Education and Experience:
  • Previous experience as a pastry cook or assistant pastry chef is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 80 pounds.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift (range from 8-12 hours).
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Work environment includes a fast-paced bar setting with varying noise and temperature levels.
  • Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
